The 3rd CASA Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting Held in Jakarta
The 3rd Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of the "Clean Air for Sustainable ASEAN (CASA)" project, led by Professor Ki-Young Lee and his research team at the Graduate School of Public Health, Seoul National University, was held on July 15, 2025, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The meeting brought together National Focal Points (NFPs) from the 10 ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF), CASA PMU, and implementing partners to share project progress and discuss key issues and future directions.
Supported by the AKCF from 2023 to 2026, the CASA project aims to identify sources of air pollution and assess health impacts in the ASEAN region, ultimately contributing to evidence-based environmental health policy development.
One of the key activities — installation of air quality monitoring stations — has so far been completed at 10 sites across 4 countries: Lao PDR, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, and Cambodia. The remaining installations in 5 ASEAN countries are scheduled to continue through 2026.
In addition to the AQMS progress, the meeting covered scientific and policy achievements, the development of a regional air quality platform, strategies for policy recommendations, and ways to strengthen collaboration with ASEAN stakeholders.
