23. 1. 10.

Clean Air for Sustainable ASEAN (CASA) project funded by ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund (AKCF) launched from January 2023.

The director of SNU Center for Global Environmental Health, Prof. Kiyoung Lee (Department of Environmental Health Sciences, Graduate School of Public Health, Seoul National University) launched a Clean Air for Sustainable ASEAN (CASA) project with US$11,000,000 from the ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund (AKCF) for four years from January 2023 to December 2026. This project will be conducted in cooperation with Seoul National University, Yonsei University, UNESCAP, and Anytech.

This CASA project aims to comprehensively support political, scientific, and technical approaches to mitigate air pollution and minimize health impacts in ASEAN Member States. The main activities of the project are as follows:

1) to raise the understanding of the sources and health impacts of air pollution, to find the significant air pollutants sources, and to provide evidence of the health benefits of air quality improvements;
2) to improve the accessibility of air quality data by developing regional online platform with the data from air quality monitoring station and satellite data;
3) to raise the preparedness and capacity of AMS to address air pollution and its health impacts by developing regional guidance;
4) to develop regional policy recommendation for AMS to mitigate air pollution with the coordination of participating agencies.

Through this project, we would like to identify air pollution and health effects in ASEAN Member states and provide region-specific guidance on this.
